Therapeutic Massage
The basis of massage is touch. There is increasing medical evidence showing the
value of touch. Touch is so natural that without it, people can become depressed
and irritable.
Massage therapy is based on the
fact that the soft tissues .... muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia ... respond
to touch. Most pain is soft tissue in origin. Trigger points ... sensitive
points in muscles which radiate or refer pain to various parts of the body ... can
mimic many conditions. Muscles not only move our joints, they stabilize them
and they provide armor for the internal organs. These functions cause more
pain than most people realize.
Massage is one of the easiest
ways of attaining and maintaining good health. It is a healing instinct, natural
in all humans, to rub an aching shoulder or stroke a furrowed brow. Even the most
simple form of massage can have a tremendously comforting effect.
